Draft Day Quick Thoughts

FAASPN- Pittsburgh First off it is always great to get with the guys. I have to admit the FAA draft and season is like an adult christmas time for me. I'm not sure if I should be embarrassed by this, but I look forward to the start of the FAA/NFL season more than I look forward to almost any day all year. I beg of us to get together and do a draft in Vegas next year. Would be an absolute blast to get everyone together in one place.

Random Thoughts:

• Pittsburgh's selection of Jamal Lewis with the 4th pick of the draft was probably the most shocking single moment of the draft. I thought Ivan may have reached at the 2nd pick for Knoshown Moreno, but the selection of Lewis was a shocker. I don't hate Lewis. He had over 1,200 yards combined last year on a team that absolutely everything went wrong for offensively. Having said that I just don't see why it is necessary to grab him with the 4th overall pick. I feel like PIT should have traded down if he really wanted Lewis
• The debacle that was the Honolulu / Imperial trade will lead to in interesting matchup when these two teams meet on the field. Wags has been salivating over Colston for at least a month. He has been literally bursting with joy over the thought that he had locked Colston up by moving to #2. After looking at the deal though I don't doubt Ivan's concern that he wouldn't have got Moreno. Both Pierre Thomas and Jamal Lewis were selected before the 6th pick (Where WAGS selected Housh). I'm guessing that one of those guys could /would have selected Moreno. Its safe to say that Isimo went have gone Ape $hit if he would have lost out on his guy.
• Carc really got after Albany for his lack of starters during the draft. I dug into this and I must admit it doesn't appear Raud had a strong draft. Here are his RBs

2. Rashard Mendenhall
3. Tim Hightower
4. Brandon Jackson
5. Marshawn Lynch
6. Ryan Grant

I count one #1 RB (Lynch) who is suspended for 3 games

When you factor in his WR's (AJ, Hines Ward, Lance Moore, Sydney Rice) and his TE (J. Carlson) one can only say WTF!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Random Thoughts Pre-Season Addition

• This draft does not strike me as being particularly loaded and I'm surprised at the number of people trading UP in the draft. I felt the smart move all along was to trade down in this year's draft
• Brandon Marshall could be a major bust if someone picks him early and he ends up getting suspended or a major boom if someone picks him late and he puts together a great season. Will be interesting to see who makes the reach.
• Between Brady, Westbrook, Parker and TO the clients have had nearly no exposure in the pre-season and all are battling injury concerns. Will be interesting to see if NYC is back to business as usual for week one.
• NYC is quite ready to battle Siv on the graphic front, but the Clients are stepping their marketing game up big time this year. In this down economy you have to do more than dominate you have to entertain as well. NYC has even reached an agreement to produce Albany's logo in exchange for a 25% split of the gate from Albany's home games, which are glorified viewing parties for NYC games on the jumbotron anyway.
• I give the FAA draft about a 5% chance of starting right at 2pm EDT on September 6th. We should institute a 5 minute rule for picks in the first two rounds and 2 minutes beginning in round 3. The 15-20 minute stretches for some people to make picks is a buzz kill.
• Make sure everyone is on some kind of chat. The conference line is brutal in a loud bar. This has been a problem in past years.
• Neither PIT or Mt. Lebo have EVER made the playoffs. This HAS to end this year. Would be pretty funny if it was PIT who broke through instead of the Outlaws.

Blackouts in Albany?

FAASPN- League sources tell FAASPN that Albany's season ticket base has dropped from 10 fans to 3 fans in 2009. Mostly known for their walk-up fan base during the last few years of mediocrity the Patroons had hoped to see their season ticket base grow to 100+ this season. Unfortunately the raising of the "We LOST in the Championship Game" banner during the pre-season has had the unsurprising effect of causing the fan base to revolt. Richard Cranium who made up 20% of the season ticket base last year after purchasing two tickets on the 50 yard line had this to say about the ceremony, "I have had a challenging life and I know what its like to have people make fun of you. That is why I latched onto this team, but the chest pounding and preening that went on this off-season because we managed to LOSE in the Championship is more than I can take"

For the 3rd consecutive year the Patroons will broadcast CLIENTS games during their own home games in an effort to bring in all the NYC fans to watch the biggest screen in town. The Clients vs. Jackers contest last year produced the first home sellout in a game that Albany wasn't actually playing the Clients in the last 5 years.

Clients Break Camp

FAASPN- Las Vegas, NV The New York Clients broke training camp today and are heading back East to prepare for the season opener. Amazingly its still unclear who the Clients will play on opening day, but one thing that is clear is that team will be in for an 0-1 start to the season. The Clients moved their training camp onshore this year after training camps in London and Mumbai during the last two years. "We decided to slow things down and get back to our roots. We have heard loud and clear from our West Coast fans and it was time to bring 'THE SHOW' to our fans out here", said Orlando Hampton.

Hampton will be moving onto Pittsburgh for the annual FAA draft. The private jet touches down in the burgh on Saturday evening. The rest of "THE SHOW" is moving onto to NYC to get ready for opening day.

FAASPN- New York Today the Client's unveiled their 2009 advertising and marketing campaign 'We Run This Town'. The campaign is being produced by Jacked Up Marketing, which has caused considerable controversy in Jersey considering that 'We Run This Town' is in direct reference to the dominance of the clients in the Tri-State area. Jackers Owner Carc the Shark is on record as saying, "business is business".
